Early on I devoted my life to the service of education. As a child I played 'teacher' with resources sent home to my mother from her teacher friends. Not unlike many of you, I lined up my stuffed animals in school chairs. I stood at the front of the 'room.' I graded papers. I love school.
I never aspired to be a small business owner or entrepreneur. To be honest, it makes me feel uncomfortable, VERY uncomfortable - the idea of making money because of other people. However, I also know the value of essential oils. I know how they have kept me and my family from illness, have helped my awful athlete's foot (made worse by wearing tights while teaching), have provided support for this aging body as I engage in cross fit. This leaves me in a quandary - a life of service to others, a people loving person becoming a capitalist.
I have expenses, like any small business - and I understand business to the point that I can't lose my tail - so what is a happy medium? What am I comfortable with?
I realized I could (and wanted to) use that money for good. Of all things in life I've missed it's that I could never give like I wanted. Give to our town's quest for a new pool, to someone fighting cancer, give to school fundraisers - sure, I could pony up a $20. What I really wanted to do though? Silenty give $1,000. Silently pay off overdue lunch accounts.
How do I combine all of these thoughts?
I give without reason.
Every month, I will give 10% of my Young Living commission to a teacher. No questions asked. You do not have to apply. You do not have to tell me what you are using the money for. You do not need to report back. I believe you. Let me repeat. I BELIEVE YOU.
As my business grows, so will the giving. It's not much right now (March 2019 = $37), but every little bit helps, and I know that.
